OVERVIEW SESSION – ESSENTIALS OF LEGAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This session is an overview of the essential elements of LPM and the practices or approaches used by leading firms. The session’s goal is to build buy-in, help participants understand LPM terminology, and provide a baseline of knowledge to enable effective communication with clients. The specific topics are tailored to the needs and preferences of each individual firm, but commonly include:

  • The business case for project management in law firms today − why it matters to clients and their law firms and how law firms are gaining competitive advantage through LPM;

  • Key project management concepts − what they mean and how to talk to clients about them;

  • Examples of leading law firm project management efforts; and

  • Understanding foundational project management tools and processes that the business world/law firm clients use and how they apply to legal work − project charter/scope of work agreements, budgets and work breakdown structures/templates and work plans.
